Is this dude being salty AF, or am I being over-sensitive?

I don’t think it’s either, really. I think he’s giving you some hard advice. Might not be the most tactful, but it seems OK. He’s trying to save you some time and money. Diagnose the problem vs. loading up the parts cannon and letting it rip.

He recommended a specific part by number and discounted other options instantly as a start. He’s gonna be salty.

That’s “Dick” from the Internet. He’s everywhere.

For further reading, here’s my original post. I did ask whether it was worth replacing the plugs and crank sensor, but also asked for advice regarding the issue.

Not as salty as I’d expect a Skoda aficionado to be.

Ye’, some of the guys and gals on Briskoda can be a bit ‘to the point’ with and some sections more so than others (ie Fabia to Superb).

I’m not sure if VAG-COM is the best or worst possible name for an automotive diagnostic tool.

I especially liked the “what you should do is check it with a VAGCOM scanner. I know, you don’t have one either.” That was super douchey. Asshole, if I knew all this shit and was into it enough to have a VAGCOM, I wouldn’t be here asking your dumb ass questions.

I don’t get forum people. It always goes like

Me: *Asks honest question.*

Response: You’re a fucking moron for getting yourself into a position to have to ask that question!

He’s being kind of a dick, but he give some decent advice, also. Some people just don’t communicate very kindly, I suppose.

Read between the lines and at least make note of his advice. Someone like this is either a huge dick in real life and has no friends or needs to act this way on the internet because he takes a lot of shit in his day to day.

I have taken his advice and will use it, I do know a guy with the VAG-COM setup but he lives a 90 minutes away and the Skoda has no MOT. Maybe it’s worth a trip to the stealership? God knows I’m not buying the software and hardware myself, it’s £10 more than the entire cost of the vehicle!

Temp sensor/starter motor. Check the connection first, then replace them in order of expense. Fuck that guy.

And maybe you should suck a dick already Ricardo, but then again, I’m not your therapist.

You have alot more patience then I do dude. This is forum life. You can ask a simple question like “Should I get this or that” and someone will come up and say “you should get some unrelated third thing instead” and you say “thanks but I don’t want those I want one of these” and they will lose their freaking mind, call you stupid ect. The combination of natural human shittiness and internet anonymity is a hell of a drug.

Hm, I don’t think the engines actually sounding like its running on 3 cylinders (in that case it would be A LOT more obvious), it does seems to have a slight misfire though. This could be linked to the engine not starting once it ran for a while (warm or not, this might not matter), it could be an unrelated issue as well (as in bad spark plugs that are still good enough to start the engine, albeit causing a rough idle). If an OEM quality crank sensor is cheap to buy and easy to replace, I would save myself the trip and really just replace it. Fuel costs money as well, after all. Spark plugs need replacing anyway, so I would start there though.

I've ordered sparkies and a compression tester, so we'll go from there.

If it is true this guy is indeed in the Dominican Republic and his name is Ricardo M... well, he may have an excellent command of English and at the same time express himself very much in such a way that he comes across as, well, the way he does. Without actually trying to be an idiot.

This is a common problem in places such as the European Parliament. Some members with an excellent level of English (such as the Dutch) may however not get the finest nuances. For instance, if a Brit says “with the greatest respect”, most likely he means “I think you are wrong, or a fool.”. On this subject you can find this and other examples here: http://www.economist.com/node/3152907

There are quite a few French or German speakers that on the surface sound incredibly rude when you read their emails. It is just that learning a foreign language involves much more than just grammar.
